Independent, bold and free!

Match steps with a nation on the move!

As our 72-year-old tryst with destiny and freedom continues, we need to keep abreast of all that’s happening in our country, a nation that’s consistently trying to reinvent itself.

So how do we celebrate this day, this week, this month — and salute the Independence that is so precious to us all. One of the things we can definitely feel joyous about is the many Indian traditions that continue unchanged across centuries.

Eat the foods of the season

Our food, for one. We still cook our food from scratch. We still eat indigenous foods and seasonal specialties. We eat amaranth (chaulai) in summers, methi in winters; peas in winters and bhindi in summer. It’s quite the same with the way we dress.

Dress to celebrate our Indianness

We still wear graceful long kurtas, with pajamis or salwars. We wear kurtis with jeans. We continue to wear the saree, which by the way, is the oldest living drape in the world. We have given some of these a new life with modern interpretations but they still are among our favourite forms of dress. Our love for colours continues unabated whether it’s Rajasthan or Kanyakumari!

Just in at Libas!

Nothing says how you feel probably more than how you dress. Express your feelings, your mood, with the newest arrivals from Libas…

Cool and collected!

Blue Cotton Solid Palazzo with Pom Pom Lace

Turquoise pants cut slightly high and finished with a touch of pom-pom lace at the edges. Teamed with black or a navy, it makes for a compelling statement.

Bold and Dramatic!

Beige Cotton Solid Palazzo with Pom Pom Lace

A bright and bold layered top, scarlet teamed with a pale peachy beige, irresistible and so chic!

Elegant and Sophisticated!

Multi Crepe Checks Palazzo with Both Side Pockets

A vibrant chequered pattern on palazzos cropped a little above the ankles and teamed with a tank top can be just what the designer ordered, especially for a busy working day. Teamed with white for cool, cool look.

Oozing with Ooh-la-la Appeal!

Green Rayon Printed Aline Kurta with Rayon Printed Trouser

Cool, refreshing and oh-so-feminine! That’s a flared kurta with a lovely skirt that teams sea green with a pink woven belt with cloth bells. Simple and elegant, this ensemble works whether you’re off for a meeting or to the movies or simply a day with the girls, this Teej!

All these outfits take inspiration from age-old Indian traditions but have been re-interpreted in a modern silhouette that’s just right for today’s young Indian woman. To enable her to be able to switch from client meetings to dinner dates to movie nights with the family. Changing roles, changing mores and changing expectations. Libas helps you keep a sharp pace! Jai Hind!

Enjoy this beautiful poem about how our country should be, by poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore — a prayer, a plea for awakening for us all:

Where The Mind Is Without Fear

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

– Rabindranath Tagore
